The rather cold winter weather on the day of our first arrival at “La Rose de L’Isle” was more than compensated for by the warm welcome from our very helpful hosts, Andy and Margaret, who soon made sure that we were very comfortable in our cosy gite with extra heating if needed and a plentiful supply of blankets, plus some groceries and a bottle of wine. We could even catch up on the news from the U.K. via the TV satellite Since that first visit we have returned twice more during the spring and summer months whilst searching for our retirement property when we were able to enjoy the undisturbed calm of this tranquil situation which happily is just far enough off the road for peace and quiet but not so far as to be an inconvenience – in fact the location of “La Rose de L’Isle” , whether you’re a car driver, a walker or a cycling fan, couldn’t be better. The whole area is a walker’s delight surrounded as it is by beautiful woodland.
Andy and Margaret’s gite complex offers families good value for money, providing indoor games for the tinies, bicycles for everyone, a large swimming pool with bar, and comfortable accommodation, which makes it ideal for out of season breaks, school holidays and for nature-lovers at all times of the year. For culture fans too, there is much to see in this gorgeous area of the Dordogne, with charming towns and villages such as Brantome, Perigueux & Aubterre easily accessible and the renowned vineyards around Bergerac, Libourne and St. Emilion , are all within under an hour’s drive. We felt that probably the biggest bonus during our visits, was the caring and helpful manner of Andy and Margaret and Jamie too, their young son.

Andy, Margaret and Jamie are perfect hosts- nothing is too muchtrouble. I reccomend Margaret's massage and Phil enjoyed Jamie's bike rides. The Montechristot restaurant is a must-really friendly, excellent food and superb value. Only wish we had more time to relax by the pool which is so inviting.

From South Africa and London the Roux brothers came to La Rose de l'Isle. The pleasure of seing each other again was matched by the beauty of the surroundings in the French springtime. The memories of our week in the Dordogne region will be with us long after the wine we bought is drunk. And the warmth of the Sutherland family will stay in our hearts long after our tans fade. __________________ Michael and Mark Roux (and family) (Johannesburg, South Africa)

We had a wonderfully relaxing family holiday at La Rose de L'Isle that will be talked about for years to come. The gite accomodated our extended family easily and we particularly appreciated the superb barbecue fixture and the long outdoor table on the balcony that seated all 13 of us comfortably, encouraging us to dine al-fresco by candle light late into each evening. That is, when we weren't acquainting ourselves with La Rose Retabli! The pool was a lovely size and always beautifully clean and inviting and there were plenty of other activities to lure us away from sunbathing, with our party making good use of the bikes, boules, pool, badminton and table tennis facilities. It is a beautiful region and we can really recommend a visit to the Chateau at Neuvic and the nearby forest lakes for swimming and canoeing. Above all, Andy, Margaret & Jamie made us feel very welcome, always popping up with unexpexted and thoughtful personal touches that were much appreciated. We would really recommend La Rose de L'Isle and plan to see you all again next year!

It was good to see Andy, Margaret and Jamie again, they made our visit wonderfully enjoyable.
The accommodation was excellent, local area picturesque and La Rose provided an ideally placed base to explore the area. Reflexology and massage offered by Margaret was a lovely extra.
Our 9 year old son really enjoyed the holiday , lots to do on site, plus Jamie provided a ready made play mate.
We will definately be back.

Had a wonderful weeks stay at La Rose de l'Isle. All aspects of the holiday were excellent; the accommodation, the surrounding area, the food!! Our two year old son especially enjoyed the swimming pool and games tent (Particularly the trampoline)! Overall, words do not do justice to the extent that we have enjoyed our stay. Special mention to Andy, Margaret and Jamie who have gone well beyond the call of duty to ensure that our stay was better than we could have hoped for.- Thanks all!!!!!

Though the weather seemed to change quicker than a racing drivers gear lever nothing could dampen our wonderful stay at la Rose. The facilities provided by Andy and Margaret were phenomenal, the children had more to do than they could cope with on site and the endless supply of homemade jams, muffins and fresh linen were unbeatable.
The hosts knowledge of the local area proved to be a huge asset, in particular the suggestion to try out the reasonably local farmhouse restaurant where the food was so fresh you hear it clucking in the field next door.
A fewr of the childrens favorite attractions have to include "Jamie's Big Lake" with its beach front, two cafe bars, canoe and pedaloe hire, not to mention the beautiful fresh water lake to swim in . Another favorite of "Les Enfants" is probably the various suppliers of the full breasted Magret and Chips (duck breast).
